There are a significant number of technical reviews on this camera so I'll be brief. This is an excellent camera. Only upgrade that it lacks & I wish it had is in camera lens correction. The camera is very fast. It easily takes 6+ frames a second. Auto focus is very fast also, even in less than perfect light. You'll be able to use for virtually all sporting events. But it also has good depth & coloration for landscapes, portraits, etc. It does only have a 12 bit color processing system but color is very good. AND don't let the ONLY 10 megapixel issue throw you. Although 10mp may seem light compared to the newer models, I believe that is one of the reasons the camera is so good at processing light. The pixels are less compressed on the sensor and really seem to pick up light much better than some of the newer camera's. And you will find that the 10mp is more than you'll need even if you like to crop your photo's several times or blow them up large enough to frame & hang on the wall.

AND the biggest plus? This camera is a bargain right now. With the new 7D & 50D out, people are unloading this model very quickly. If you want a camera to use for several years, try this one & take the money you'll save and buy a couple of very good PRIME lens. You'll get amazing results out of even marginal camera's if you use good lens. And if you match up a couple of good lens (TRY USING PRIMES, not telephoto's! Save the telephoto's for sporting events, etc!) to this camera you'll be very, very happy with the results. Fyi, I would give this camera 4.5-4.75 stars if I could. I purchased my Canon Elura 100 mini-dv camcorder in 2007.This little gem has been nothing less than a pleasure to own.I have used it at least weekly and not even one glitch.The controls are easy to use and the auto setting pretty much does it all for you,but you can adjust most everything manually if your a videophile.Indoor low light shooting isn't perfect,but a turning on a couple of lamps makes a huge difference.The only downfall is the battery life isn't the best,I get around 1 1/2 hours on a charge,the spare batteries are pretty cheap now so I have a few extras charged at all times.Unfortunately the location of the battery prohibits large capacity batteries.The "Canon Elura 100" is out of production but it can sometimes be found on the Internet Refurbished for a very good price.Canon usually does a very good job refurbishing their products.




I have to include this little rant.I once made the mistake of purchasing a JVC GRD-90U camcorder,just after the warranty ran out the camcorder started giving me the dreaded "Please Wait,Condensation Operation Paused".I contacted JVC and they were absolutely useless.Come to find out this JVC GRD-90U and many other JVC models were known to have this sensor defect.It is all over the Internet.JVC refused to recall these camcorders and haven't budged since.There were many fixes that people posted but none were permanent.I will NEVER even look at a JVC product again!

I have had this camera since it first came out sometime in the mid-90's. It was a great camera back then, and I always loved the photos that it took. Then I 'grew up' and life got in the way, and my love of photography waned for many years. Digital cameras took over, and a Digital P&S was smaller, faster, and easier.

Many years later, my love of photography has been renewed. The film camera simply needed to be dusted off and have some film, and it still takes pictures of the same clarity and quality as it always did before. I expected it to have some issues after having collected much dust over several years, but it was fine.

I have now just purchased my first DSLR, but I will never get rid of my little Rebel G. It's small, light, easy to use, and takes amazing pictures even in Full-Auto mode with the kit lens (the only lens I ever had for it). It was expensive for my budget when it first came out and was new, but now used bodies in great shape can be purchased for around $100 if you shop around. All EF lenses work with it, as well as the Image stabilized ones.

It really does take amazing pictures. My daugther's eyes are blue and the blue is truly captured with the film camera (see uploaded image). I have had this camera for over five (5) years and I absolutely love it. I have never had any problems with this camera and it has performed amazingly. I have taken around 50,000 pictures with my Rebel and it is still going strong. I have the same original batteries that I got with my camera. My batteries have always lasted a long time before needing to be recharged; when I shot sports I could use one battery for roughly the whole day. Canon products are very high quality, which is what you can expect with brand name Japanese electronics. The Canon lenses are also fantastic; I have owned the high-quality standard 50/1.4, the portrait 85/1.8, the mid telephoto 70-200/4.0, the amazing 100/2.8 macro,and the wide-angle 17-40 L. These are all fantastic lenses to put on your Rebel, and you can rest assured that there is a whole range of Canon products to suit your needs. The only downside to these products is that they are quite expensive.

As far as the Rebel, the only complaints I have are these:

1. The amount of noise at 1600 ISO makes these pictures generally unusable.
2. The AF system is not robust enough for sports; you can do it but it's hard.
3. The grip, somewhat small, can take getting used to.
4. The camera can't take too many RAW or high quality JPEG pictures in succession (important for sports).

In general this camera is a dream for most peoples uses. Eight MP will give you high-quality prints. Unless you want to blow up your pictures to poster size this camera will be great for you.

Compared to what's available now, this camera can seem a bit "outdated" but I bought one used many years ago and it is still going strong, recording projects with very competitive SD picture quality. It isn't HD and it doesn't have 24P but its "frame mode" does provide a low-cost alternative. I chose this camera because I had a lot of experience using it from other GL1 and GL2 owners and I'm still not disappointed. I say this is a very good introductory camera for filmmakers and videographers not looking to spend twice as much for the most current technology. This camera is designed for professional applications and is not a good choice for people shooting "simple" home videos and little league games. If you are not serious about shooting and editing professional video, this camera will easily discourage any buyers not willing to learn a lot of functions.

After at least 4 years of service (not including how long the previous owner used it), I have still not seen any malfunctions such as the "remove tape" error that seems to be occurring with some GL2 owners. I own several camcorders and reserve the GL2 for only the best projects in order to spare this camera from heavy usage and abuse. This poor quality product has not even allowed me to make any prints. The paper feed mechanism is unable to pull the print paper into the machine. The one time it did, it said it was the wrong type of paper, which was not the case. After an hour of fruitless attempts, the ink cartridge (which only has enough ink for 5 prints) ran out of ink. Do not but any Canon products. They are very poor quality!

I've had this little Powershot A410 for years. It fits well in my purse or pocket, so it is with me ALWAYS. I also have a Canon Powershot S3IS that is a "more advanced" point and shoot.

Lately I have been getting the bug to upgrade to a DSLR and most likely will in the next month. I have also been looking at small point & shoots to replace the A410.

I have just realized that would be a waste of money. This little camera produces images that are just as good (and sometimes better) than the other Canon or other shots I see taken with expensive cameras.

Twice now this camera has gotten completely soaking wet....and it's fine! Just the other day, I dropped it on some rocks ...hard .... and it's just fine!

I love its portability, ease-of-use and picture quality. It has enough options to control exposure, timings, color temp etc for a amateur photographer. (The 5-star ratings are keeping in mind what I expect from a point-n-shoot camera. Obviously the picture quality is not as good as a SLR.) I have used it extensively and loved every bit of it. Except recently, when it died due to lens error. I guess some particles (sands?) got stuck in the lens system. Now it fails to start. The repairing cost is not justified.
