I had originally bought JVC's Everio GZ-HM550 with Blue-Tooth. It was a problem right from the start. The screen broke on the first day of use and it's "fancy features" Were not ENOUGH to OUT DO the VIXIA HF S100. Canon BP-2L14 Battery for Canon HG, HV, ZR, Optura, and Elura Camcorders Review

Seemed expensive when I bought this battery, but now I know why...fully charged it lasts for a couple of standard tapes. No stress about the battery running out in the middle of something important. It is a very large battery compared to the Canon battery that came with the camcorder which is a small problem.

Very happy I bought the Canon brand. Had it for over two years and it is still going strong.

I've never really noticed UV interference or anything of the type; all I got this cap for was protection. It's made in the USA (says right on the side), it's metal, and it's well built. I did not notice any picture quality degradation, which was my biggest concern. It screws right on, and I doubt I will ever take it off (unless someone breaks the glass on it or something). Canon E58 Snap-on Lens Cap Get it now!

Lens caps were not OEM,although Amazon display implies that they were. Although they do fit the lens, they are even more easily dislodged than the already substandard OEM E85 lens caps, which is a low hurdle indeed! Only positive comment is that the replacement price better matches the poor quality of the replacement compared to the(Canon's) very over-priced originals (by a factor of 2.5X) Even with care bordering on the paranoid , I have managed to have 3 caps lost with only weekend usage over an 8 month period.(And, that refers to the original poorly designed Canon caps. Don't expect much protection from these replacements either)

FOLLOW-UP: I was immediately contacted by the vendor( fivestarexperience) after this negative review with an offered postage-paid refund for the items if returned , or simple credit for order minus S/H. This is a very inexpensive product, not worth the trouble to do either. But the offer did change my opinion/estimation of the vendor! Thank You.! I'd recommend the vendor and would use again. My review of all E58 lens caps and pricing is rather "glum", however.

Defect number 1: To download pictures from the camera to the computer, a utility is required. The built in 32Gig storage does not simply show up as a USB drive when you connect the camera to a PC with a USB cable. This is a serious inconvenience and a puzzling avoidance of a basic ease of use, portability and flexibility mechanism.

Defect number two: Adding insult to injury, the utility to download pictures to the computer is *not* freely available and downloadable from their drivers and download page. The updates to the ZoomBrowser EX 6.5 utility, a bunch of documentation, etc. are all available but not the actual utility itself (Zoom Browser EX). When I called up tech support they offered to *sell* me the utility!!! ....and MAIL (as in physical) it to me on a CD!!!! Yes this in the year 2010.

So you can buy a $1,000 plus camera and be stuck unable to download pictures to a computer if you do not happen to have the CD with utilities that was included in the box. The utility can't be emailed to you (which would be bad enough) it has to be physically mailed on a CD to you.

This is the moral equivalent of a capital crime or criminal insanity in consumer electronics in this day and age.

I intend to avoid the company's products in future and advise all to look carefully into this matter and do the same.

You can fix this simply by putting the utilities necessary on the download site. Not just the upgrade to it. We'll understand. Everyone makes dumb mistakes from time to time. I bought this to replace my girlfriends aging Canon SD1100, and we couldn't be happier.

We love the compact size of the SD series, and the intuitive menu system used by Canon. Unlike many other camera brands, it's very easy to find even the most obscure settings in the Canon menus; they're well laid out, responsive, and easy to navigate.

Picture quality is also superb. I was a little worried at first that the huge megapixel count on a tiny point & shoot camera sensor would just result in soft, noisy images, but I was wrong. We've printed a bunch of shots at 8x10, and a few really great shots at 12x18. It's no APS or APS-C, DSLR, but for a little pocket camera, this thing rocks. I'm now trying to decide if I want one of these for myself, or if I should make the jump to the SD1400.

This is a compact, easy-to-use, bring the fun back to photography camera that provides Canon's photo quality in a lower cost, compact build. A little bit bigger than the digital elphs, this camera still fits comfortably in a shirt or pant pocket.

The feature set is very basic, and nothing new. It has a "Face select" feature which lets you select which person you want to focus on in a group. On the dial it has four settings: Auto, Easy, Program and movie modes. The auto mode is just as with every other camera, the camera will select the settings it determines best, but you maintain control (if you care to select it) over the white balance and flash. Easy is the same as auto, except no options. Program gives you the option to select among several "scenes": Portrait, Landscape, Night, Kids&Pets, and Indoor (buried in the menu you can also select lesser used scene settings like Beach, Long Shutter, and Fireworks).

The only negative I've encountered with the camera is the relatively slow processor. That is the power up time (the time between turning the camera on and taking the first picture) is average (about 2 seconds), however, the time between pictures is around 2 seconds without the flash to 4 seconds with the flash. If you envision having (or wanting) to take faster pictures, then this is not the camera for you. Similarly, if you want to have any control over settings (i.e. shutter speed if you want to take pictures of your running toddler) this is not the camera for you.

Bottom line:
Canon replaces control and feature selection for extreme ease-of-use. This camera is a solid option for the money, and in case you are considering the A3000 IS, this (the A3100) is well worth the extra $30 (better resolution and faster picture-to-picture time).
