There are a significant number of technical reviews on this camera so I'll be brief. This is an excellent camera. Only upgrade that it lacks & I wish it had is in camera lens correction. The camera is very fast. It easily takes 6+ frames a second. Auto focus is very fast also, even in less than perfect light. You'll be able to use for virtually all sporting events. But it also has good depth & coloration for landscapes, portraits, etc. It does only have a 12 bit color processing system but color is very good. AND don't let the ONLY 10 megapixel issue throw you. Although 10mp may seem light compared to the newer models, I believe that is one of the reasons the camera is so good at processing light. The pixels are less compressed on the sensor and really seem to pick up light much better than some of the newer camera's. And you will find that the 10mp is more than you'll need even if you like to crop your photo's several times or blow them up large enough to frame & hang on the wall.

AND the biggest plus? This camera is a bargain right now. With the new 7D & 50D out, people are unloading this model very quickly. If you want a camera to use for several years, try this one & take the money you'll save and buy a couple of very good PRIME lens. You'll get amazing results out of even marginal camera's if you use good lens. And if you match up a couple of good lens (TRY USING PRIMES, not telephoto's! Save the telephoto's for sporting events, etc!) to this camera you'll be very, very happy with the results. Fyi, I would give this camera 4.5-4.75 stars if I could. I ordered Sigma Dp1 because I did read so many good reviews but at the same time I bought it, I got the Canon G11 as a gift from my sister.

So far what I read from this camera reviews are "this is not a camera for newbie or amateurs, you know what you're doing when shooting with this camera".

And I know what exactly I'm doing with this camera, returning it. Here are some highlights

1. I may not be a professional but I'm definitely NOT a photography newbie, I have couple canon and Sony DSLRs and couple Sony and eight L lenses in my bag and been shooting for years, and yes I do know how to play around with shutter speed, aperture, iso....
2. my first feeling of this Sigma Dp1 is it's so light, and cheap build plastic quality on my hand.
3. extremely noise LCD, I turned it on in a room with big windows and lots of sun light, but the LCD showed noise like hell. It's a very low resolution LCD.
4. slow autofocus.
5. extremely slow processing speed after taking a photo, looks like it froze for 5-6 seconds and you can't even do anything with the camera until the camera "wakes up". The red light is on indicating that it's "processing". I can't accept this kind of speed, specially for a point and shoot (DSLR alike). Probably with a sandisk extreme SD, it would be better, but...not worth it.
6. Very slow resolution, even though it has 14MP, but I do not understand why resolution is extremely low, in photoshop it's showing me the photo is 2500 something by 1000 something. This is unacceptable for a 14MP, I felt like Sigma is lying to me. I checked the image quality option and really, it's the highest photo quality setting.
7. flash popping up is plastic cheap sound and not it's bright enough.
8. non IS lens, f/4 lens, not many features, and can't work in low light condition. to somebody, f/4 is enough, yes, but it has to be outdoor and perfect lighting condition, if you take scenic or outdoor photo, f/4 is ok. Sorry Sigma, but I usually shoot at night, in restaurants, bars, night clubs, and auto/program mode gave me blur images. If I increase Shutter speed to get sharp image, it's dark and noise as hell....
9. design has no hand grip, hard to hold in your hand.
10. cheap button, black icon color blending in black plastic button (smart design huh?), hard to see and read.


My current G11 rocks, Canon has lowered the MP to improve low light performance and it is really good, macro is extremely good, IS works really well for sharp image even at 5X optical zoom, it's much better than my old G10. Even the G11 that has 10MP censor, it gave me 3648 x 2736 pixel at 180 dpi. I really do not understand Sigma and how could they survive their DP series.

I had many digital cameras before this one, 2 of them were DSLR, Pentax k110 and Sony A200.

This Pentax is user friendly, all important factors to achieve a good shot are easily accessible, it is a big camera in a smaller lighter package (try it first if u have real big hands) construction is very good, a bit more plastik than previous Pentax cameras but still solid and decent.

I shall mention also that though one gets focus confirmation while shooting (a beep and a green dot), there is no indication on which point has achieved focus, to remedy this, I select the center point to focus first then recompose.

Battery reading has only 2 steps, so it is not as accurate as the percentage reading on Sony A200, however, this Pentax uses AA battery so you could always have an extra set available.

For those who require live view, the olympus E520 is available for about the same price, for those who require a weather sealed body try the Pentax K200D, for those who need video capture, check Nikon D5000 or Canon 500d, these cameras however will cost more.

I'm surprised on how much stuff I got for the amount of money I paid. The Camera was in great shape and received the whole package. VERY convenient for a busy person so I don't have to go to the store and buy each item needed separately.

Although, I have a few things that I am very disappointed about:
=The Digital Camera Cleaning kit: The lens cleaning fluid spilled and the cleaning kit box was soaking wet when I got it. Good thing it didn't spill all over the contents of the package.
-The tripod box has dents and cracks on it. It looked like someone used their nail and scratched it open...
-The tripod itself looks old and used. The roller that brings up the pole would lock up and looks like it is about to break. The pole is shaky and has stains on it. Overall, I am very disappointed about the tripod because it is very unstable.
