The D40x has been discontinued, but it's still a worthy DSLR and should be considered by anyone who's looking for an inexpensive entry level camera or for a small backup camera. The big difference with the D60, I believe, is mostly just the self cleaning mode. The difference in price is at least 100 dollars.

As others have noted, ignore the excessive brand new price mentioned here.

I use my D40x as my portable camera that I take with me when I don't want to risk damaging or losing my D90. I've been considering buying something like a Canon G11, a large size point and shoot. The G11 isn't really a pocket camera either. While the G11 has lots of great auto features, it still can't match the manual controls of a DSLR and I'm fairly certain that the D40x can beat it in terms of noise and ISO usability. I've taken night shots with the D40x at 800 ISO that came out great.

I wouldn't recommend the D40x to anyone who's looking for the best entry level DSLR. Given its age and functionality, I think it's pretty much limited to those on a really tight budget or those looking for an inexpensive back up. The camera came for a vacation in Europe. It came in quite handy. 1200+ pictures and multiple live mode videos. Only charged the battery 1x. Amazing battery life.

The pictures are awesome! Quality unbelievable. Ease of use for getting it 1 day before I left on a 3 week vacation...was remarkable! The iso functioning...amazing...the pictures brought out more than I could even attempt to make out with the naked eye.

The build is nice and solid...mostly metal construction. The protective lcd cover is a huge plus when you are tracking it around all over the place on vacation and does not change the image all that much.

I previously had a canon slr camera. I have to say. I may have just become a nikon junkie. haha. Great camera. Great price. I finally bought the S5 Pro after a long wait for the price to drop, i am the owner of Fuji S2, S3 pro for a long time and still..I have no doubt that S5 will exceed the previous models. Indeed it is a much better camera.
The build is nicely solid, fast respond, heavy and feel great in my hands. I have read many reviews on this S5, people complained about its back focus issue!? I found no problem at all. I can only suggest people to read the manual throughout 1st before using the camera, one must know all the functions of this camera..The AF is more advance than the S2&S3, it got many settings on it.
As far as picture quality , OMG! it is totally awesome. the color is so smooth and so pleasing, the details is so attractive, not to mention very nice noise control at high iso, the sharpness come from your lens, but i love all about Fuji image quality, it is the best i've seen, and i have owned about 20 digital cameras already. To bad Fuji stop making DSLR, otherwise i would buy their next model. But i have faith that Fuji will return 1 day..
Strongly suggest anyone who cares for IQ rather than speed. S5 is a fast enough camera. But you will be happy with the end result.

Cheap Nikon D70S 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)

So I've owned my Nikon D70s now for over 2 years and it is a great camera. I use to own a Nikon D50 which I passed along to my younger sibling after purchasing the Nikon D70s body from a local photographer who upgraded to the Nikon D3 after its release. This camera was kept in pristine shape and shoots like a dream. The Nikon controls are easy to me but I am familiar with them from the D50. The D70s offers a few more controls than the D50 but the picture quality is still the same. The other difference is it uses the CF card compared to the SD card the D50 uses. So be aware of that. If you do not have CF cards, you'll need to buy more. Oh, also the D70s uses the DX lenses along with the regular Nikon lenses unlike the D40, D40x and D60 which can only use the DX lenses. So, if you have or are able to get a hold of some older Nikon Nikkor lenses, you should be good to use them on this body.

This camera fits large in hand so if you're a bigger guy with bigger hands (or woman :-)) you will like the feel of this camera as it gives you full control of the hold. The built in pop-up flash is excellent. Manual controls are great too. You can easily switch from Manual to Automatic with the flip switch next to the lens on the front of the camera.

I've use this camera to take many Macro and Scenic pics at different gardens around the country. I've added some sample images here. The shots by CXG are mine. As I travel, I always make an excuse to get out and shoot and this camera lets you do that with ease. Battery life is really really good. On a full charge, I can take up to just over 600 snaps before the battery just dies. Yes, 600 pictures.

Nikon got it right with this camera. I am not a "super-pro" photographer but I have shot weddings and events with this camera and have done very well financially with the images this camera has produced. And people love the images taken with this camera.

Please "DO NOT" worry about megapixels when it comes to DSLR or digital cameras for that matter. 6.1 is more than enough. I have blown up pictures without any noise (Noise is the grainy look in picturs) up to 30x20 and they look fabulous at the 6.1 MP setting. [...] Ken is a Nikon guy so, just be aware of that.
