Lowest Price Canon EOS 40D 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens

There are a significant number of technical reviews on this camera so I'll be brief. This is an excellent camera. Only upgrade that it lacks & I wish it had is in camera lens correction. The camera is very fast. It easily takes 6+ frames a second. Auto focus is very fast also, even in less than perfect light. You'll be able to use for virtually all sporting events. But it also has good depth & coloration for landscapes, portraits, etc. It does only have a 12 bit color processing system but color is very good. AND don't let the ONLY 10 megapixel issue throw you. Although 10mp may seem light compared to the newer models, I believe that is one of the reasons the camera is so good at processing light. The pixels are less compressed on the sensor and really seem to pick up light much better than some of the newer camera's. And you will find that the 10mp is more than you'll need even if you like to crop your photo's several times or blow them up large enough to frame & hang on the wall.

AND the biggest plus? This camera is a bargain right now. With the new 7D & 50D out, people are unloading this model very quickly. If you want a camera to use for several years, try this one & take the money you'll save and buy a couple of very good PRIME lens. You'll get amazing results out of even marginal camera's if you use good lens. And if you match up a couple of good lens (TRY USING PRIMES, not telephoto's! Save the telephoto's for sporting events, etc!) to this camera you'll be very, very happy with the results. Fyi, I would give this camera 4.5-4.75 stars if I could. I would give it 5 if it had in camera correction (for some lens aberrations) & a 14 bit color processor. Good shooting! Low Price Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera with 18-105mm AF-S DX VR + Nikon 55-200mm AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens + 16GB Card + EN-EL3e Battery + Case + Cameta Bonus Accessory Kit

Being an old 35mm SLR user, it was only a matter of time until I graduated from a point and shoot digital to something like this. I love the versatility of this camera and all that's available for it. I'm still in the learning process (and probably will be for a good while) but, little by little I'm getting the hang of some of the many attributes of this camera.

My first draw to this camera was the 12.3 megapixels along with the 3" screen. Viewing each shot on the screen makes it very easy to see if it's one I need to keep or not.... not the case with my little point and shoot with a screen so small you couldn't tell if the shot was in focus, or not.

All in all, this was a great purchase. I plan to add a wide angle lens for the terrific scenic shots I plan on taking on my upcoming trip to Switzerland.... along with a remote shutter release, for those low light situations.

If you don't mind carrying around a case with a few lenses and related garb, this is a wonderful setup. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who's more than a simple point and shoot kind of person.Get more detail about Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera with 18-105mm AF-S DX VR + Nikon 55-200mm AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens + 16GB Card + EN-EL3e Battery + Case + Cameta Bonus Accessory Kit.

Discount Nikon D40x 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens

The D40x has been discontinued, but it's still a worthy DSLR and should be considered by anyone who's looking for an inexpensive entry level camera or for a small backup camera. The big difference with the D60, I believe, is mostly just the self cleaning mode. The difference in price is at least 100 dollars.

As others have noted, ignore the excessive brand new price mentioned here.

I use my D40x as my portable camera that I take with me when I don't want to risk damaging or losing my D90. I've been considering buying something like a Canon G11, a large size point and shoot. The G11 isn't really a pocket camera either. While the G11 has lots of great auto features, it still can't match the manual controls of a DSLR and I'm fairly certain that the D40x can beat it in terms of noise and ISO usability. I've taken night shots with the D40x at 800 ISO that came out great.

I wouldn't recommend the D40x to anyone who's looking for the best entry level DSLR. Given its age and functionality, I think it's pretty much limited to those on a really tight budget or those looking for an inexpensive back up. When you compare the manual controls and the ISO capability compared to P&S backups like the G11, it makes the D40x a good choice.Get more detail about Nikon D40x 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens.

Order Olympus Evolt E-3 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with Mechanical Image Stabilization (Body Only)

I have had my E-3 for two years now. It is a fantastic camera, and a real workhorse.
The E-3 has an external white balance sensor, and in part due to that, in part due to the famed Olympus color processing, the photos it takes have wonderful color -- both natural, and incredibly pleasing.
The low-light sensitivity is perhaps not on par with other cameras: I find it acceptable up to ISO 1250 only. On the other hand, the image stabilization system (in-camera, works with every lens) works very well, and I can take sharp pictures (even when viewed at 1:1 magnification) with shutter speeds down to 1/10s.
The camera is fast and responsive, the viewfinder is large, and provides full information.
I bought this camera with the Olympus 12-60 lens, but lately, I prefer the 14-54 on it as my standard lens: it is lighter, it gives more working distance for macro photos, and it balances a bit better.
The camera, and the lens, are sealed against rain, dust, and humidity. I think this combo is an ideal travel camera. The lens is equivalent to 28-108 in 35mm format, it is bright (f/2.8-3.5), and it has excellent macro capabilities. The overall set is resistant to weather -- it is something you can put into your backpack, and be able to rely upon regardless of the conditions in which you will be shooting.
I use mostly the RAW format, processing RAW files with Olympus Studio or Capture One (LightRoom is not as good with respects to color rendering, for the Olympus E-3).
However, even the out-of-camera JPGs are very good.
Overall, I highly recommend this camera: a dependable workhorse, with high-quality versatile lenses, that just keeps delivering outstanding results.

Nikon D50 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only) Review

The D50 was my first SLR and the first camera where I really learned what I was doing with cameras. It's reliable and simple to use, and unlike the very newest Nikon cameras (D40, D60, etc.) It will focus with the older screw drive autofocus lenses. It will not meter with manual focus lenses, and that for me was a bit of a letdown since even the lowliest Canon can do that.

It's max ISO is 1600 and even today the noise level is really good, the image looking more like film grain. At ISO 200 it's noiseless and great. The burst speed is about 3 frames for RAW and about 2 1/2 frames a second non-stop for JPEG. In general if you're an amateur, snapshot traveler, or need a second SLR as a backup this is a good choice.

The battery is a slightly older style than the newer Nikons, and as far as I know isn't used in any of the new ones, so it will eventually go out of production. The card slot is SD only (2GB or less) which was all they had at the time, and the older SD cards have been phased out for SDHC. There were a few aftermarket battery grips made, but to be honest aside from making a larger handhold they weren't good for much.

The picture quality is overall very good with two exceptions. I've noticed in scenes with mixed lighting, such as fluorescent and daylight, that the camera will get confused and expose the fluorescent as light blue. I've also seen in bright cloudy skies the highlights get all blown out. In winter scenes this makes an extra cold effect, but in normal weather it doesn't look right.

This camera is also infrared sensitive, and can take pictures with just a filter slapped on. I've since converted mine to a permanent infrared and bought a second as a "full-spectrum" with only a clear glass filter.

Overall this has been a very reliable camera for me, and in a pinch it could still do most of what I need. Get more detail about Nikon D50 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only).
